What does a child's ADHD
assessment involve?
We take time to understand each person through a bespoke triage process, matching you with the right clinician and putting relationships before anything else.
An ADHD assessment is a comprehensive evaluation conducted by experienced professionals to determine whether an individual has ADHD.
The assessment will conclude whether an individual has:
ADHD – predominantly inattentive presentation
ADHD – predominantly hyperactive-impulsive presentation
Combined ADHD (both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive).
Our assessments are evidence-based and thorough, and we work to ease any anxieties throughout the assessment process. All of our assessments are bespoke to support the individual in engaging fully with the assessment process.

Education
Understanding your child’s ADHD profile will help you be able to advocate for any reasonable adjustments or support required to enable them to thrive within their education and learning. The report can be shared with teachers and tutors as needed.
Home
An ADHD assessment will help identify areas of strength and things that are more challenging with regard to home life. The assessment will provide bespoke
recommendations to support you in developing strategies alongside your child to better manage home life more effectively.
Friendships and play
As you gain a better understanding of your child’s profile of strengths and needs, this will ultimately help support your child in building friendships and relationships and in understanding their strengths within this.
What do I do with this diagnosis?
This will be different for everyone, but following the diagnosis, an individual might:
Access strengths-based and specialist support or therapy services.
Share the diagnosis with trusted adults who support the child, enabling them to better understand the child’s strengths and needs.
Speak to the child’s educational setting about any required reasonable adjustments.
Use it as a gateway to learn more about your child's neurodivergent profile.
If required, the report may signpost to medication services, though many individuals may access support and therapy in the first instance

Who are child ADHD assessments for?
Our ADHD assessments are designed for children aged six and above who may show signs such as difficulty focusing, impulsivity, hyperactivity, or challenges with organisation and emotional regulation. Assessments help families gain clarity, understanding, and a plan for appropriate support.
Are appointments available online or in person?
We offer a combination of online and in-person appointments.
To ensure we complete a thorough and accurate assessment, all children must attend an in-person appointment for the observational part of the assessment. This is an essential part of our assessment process and cannot be completed online.
Appointments with parents and carers, such as initial consultations, history-taking, feedback sessions, and follow-up discussions, can usually be conducted online if this is more convenient.
What happens during a child ADHD assessment?
Assessments are carried out by experienced clinicians using evidence-based tools such as the DIVA or other recognised diagnostic interviews, alongside input from parents, teachers, and caregivers. The process is child-centred and supportive, aiming to build a clear picture of your child’s strengths, challenges, and needs.
In most cases, you’ll receive your child’s diagnostic outcome during the appointment. Where further review is needed, the case will be discussed by our multidisciplinary team to ensure clinical accuracy and confidence in the diagnosis
How long does the assessment process take?
We don’t commit to exact timeframes, as every family’s journey is unique. However, once a private assessment is booked, your process starts immediatley.
What does it mean that ASG adheres to NICE guidelines?
It means our experts follow the standards recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for diagnosis in children. This ensures your child’s assessment meets nationally recognised standards of quality and care.
What happens after my child’s assessment?
You’ll receive a detailed report with recommendations for next steps, including support strategies at home, in school, or through therapy. You'll also receive a bespoke next steps support appointment with one of our specialist support team members, all of whom have lived experience, to talk through your report in detail, discuss any recommendations and signposting, answer your questions, and help you understand the most appropriate next steps for you and your family.
